Kindergarten Music, November 2025
Kindergarten students have done a great job with their quiet listening! They got up to two minutes in October, and we are going to stay with two minutes into November. Now we are practicing sharing our opinions and preferences about music, expressing if we liked or didn’t like a song by showing a thumbs up or thumbs down after listening. Our musician for the month of November is Hildegard von Bingen, a German Benedictine saint who wrote music. She is one of the earliest known composers (living from 1098-1179), and is one of a a small selection of well-known female composers.
Kindergarten students have grown very successful demonstrating their speaking, singing, whispering, shouting, and internal voices, so we now get to use those voices to play the game Wee Willy Winkie. Our new skill for November will be exploring Tempo, which is our musical vocabulary word for how fast or slow we speak or sing. At the end of October, students had their first chance to sing by themselves in front of the class with Peep Squirrel; now we are working on Pitter Patter, which students will be able to sing by themselves in late November. Our echo songs for November are Johnny on the Woodpile and Kye Kye Kule, a Ghanaian echo song.
