Musicians & Albums
Susan Reed is a singer, songwriter, and storyteller with several albums of wonderful children’s music. We use her works in class regularly. One of her albums, Skipping Round the Moon, consists of songs to help students learn their multiplication tables.
Raffi has dozens of albums of songs for children, both classics and original songs. He also still performs live shows occasionally, although all of his currently announced upcoming shows will take place in Canada.
Ed McCurdy has several albums of children’s songs and stories, as well as collections of historic ballads and cowboy songs. My favorite album of his is Children’s Songs.
Kathy Troxel has released several educational albums for children, with songs that teach math and grammar concepts. She also has an album of Geography Songs (not on Spotify but available elsewhere online) which is great but a few songs are out of date at this point.
Wee Sing has dozens of themed albums of children’s songs, in addition to albums of the soundtracks of their movies. The albums feature a mix of adults and children, making them ideal vocal models for elementary students.
Movies & Videos
A great movie for students in grades K-2 featuring a selection of classic children’s songs and a message about the value of being friends with people who are different from you. Wee Sing also has several other musical movies for children available on their YouTube channel.
The Wiggles have made many great musical movies for PreK and early elementary students. Wiggly Safari is one of my favorites, featuring Steve Irwin and songs about the wildlife found in Australia. Many of the Wiggles’ movies are available on YouTube.
Schoolhouse Rock! has entertaining music videos on a variety of topics, including history, science, grammar, and math. Many are available on YouTube as well as Disney+.
