Grade 3 General Music, October 2025
As students continue to increase their stamina for sustained silent listening with our Super Quiet Uninterrupted Listening Time (SQUILT), we will be exploring the works of Austrian composer Franz Schubert as our composer of the month for October. We will also be reading the poetry of German poet Goethe, and listening to Schubert’s setting of his poem Der Erlkonig.
After learning the melody of Oh, How Lovely last month, students are ready to sing it in a round and explore the rhythms used in the song. Students will be saying, reading, and writing rhythms in 6/8 time that use quarter notes, dotted quarter notes, and eighth notes. Students are also learning the song Why Kids Are Not In Charge by Susan Reed. We will continue practicing the folk dance the Sweets of May, and reviewing the expectations of polite dance partners.
