Grade 3 General Music, September 2025
It has been wonderful to see our third grade students after the summer holiday! We began the school year by reviewing music routines and expectations, and generating a set of class norms for how we will behave in music class. Third graders quickly resumed our beginning of class routine of Super Quiet Uninterrupted Listening Time, listening quietly to music and taking note of observations and questions to share with the class. Our musician for the month of September was local Celtic band Scottish Fish. We also explored the poetry of Shel Silverstein.
After reviewing some of the songs we learned last year, students began working with the song Oh, How Lovely. They also learned Chickama, Chickama, Craney Crow, and had the opportunity to play the accompanying game outside. We reviewed folk dancing steps from last year as well as how to be a polite dance partner by dancing Gallopede, which students learned last year, and then beginning a new dance, the Sweets of May, which we will continue practicing in October.
