Grade 3 General Music, December 2025
This month for our Super Quiet Uninterrupted Listening Time, or SQUILT, students are listening to the works of Leroy Anderson, a composer from Massachusetts who often wrote pieces for the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Boston Pops. We will be studying his works The Typewriter, The Syncopated Clock, and Sleigh Ride. We are also exploring the poetry of Maya Angelou this month.
Grade 3 students are continuing our exploration of rhythms using 6/8 time, as we begin reading rhythms that use a quarter note followed by an eighth note, along with dotted quarter notes and sets of three eighth notes. Students are wrapping up their study of Why Kids Are Not In Charge and we are moving on to our new piece Kaleidoscope Color by Andy Beck. We are also practicing audience behavior and preparing for our upcoming experiences with the Lexington Symphony, which will be visiting our school and whom we will be visiting in January.
