Grade 5 General Music, December 2025

This month for our Super Quiet Uninterrupted Listening Time, or SQUILT, students are listening to the works of Leroy Anderson, a composer from Massachusetts who often wrote pieces for the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Boston Pops. We will be studying his works The Typewriter, The Syncopated Clock, and Sleigh Ride. We are also exploring the poetry of Maya Angelou this month.

Students have now finalized their research projects on musicals, and we will be using the bulk of class time this month to allow each group to present their work to the class. Students will also complete a quiz on the musical they researched, allowing each individual student to demonstrate their learning through this project. We will resume more typical class activities (singing and music literacy work) in January.
