Grade 2 Music, September 2025
It was wonderful to see our second graders again after the summer! We began the year by reviewing the expectations for music class and creating a list of class norms together for how we will all behave in music. We reviewed songs and rhythms from last year, as well as how we sit and stand to sing and how we enter the music room.
We begin every class with Super Quiet Uninterrupted Listening Time, or SQUILT. Students have been working on increasing their stamina for quiet listening, as well as listening carefully and sharing their observations with the class. Our musician for the month of September was local Celtic band Scottish Fish. We also explored the poetry of Shel Silverstein.
In September, we began learning the round Oh, How Lovely, singing in unison. We also learned the song Chickama, Chickama, Craney Crow, and got to go outside to play the game that goes with it. We worked on the folk dance Alabama Gal, which we will continue into the month of October.
