Grade 2 Music, December 2025

This month for our Super Quiet Uninterrupted Listening Time, or SQUILT, students are listening to the works of Leroy Anderson, a composer from Massachusetts who often wrote pieces for the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Boston Pops. We will be studying his works The Typewriter, The Syncopated Clock, and Sleigh Ride. We are also exploring the poetry of Maya Angelou this month.

Students in grade 2 have been making great progress with their literacy skills! This month they will be creating their own patterns in 6/8 time using quarter notes, eighth notes, and dotted quarter notes, before we move on to reading those rhythms as a group. We are also wrapping up our work with I Am the Song by Susan Reed, learning the last verse this month.
