Grade 4 General Music, September 2025
It was wonderful to see all of our fourth grade students again after the summer holiday! In 4th grade, students will be exploring the role of music in various labor movements throughout history, as well as learning to play the Ukulele, preparing for our concert in May, and continuing our work with music literacy. We began by discussing the significance of Labor Day, and learning about the radium girls and their role in passing important workers’ safety laws in the US as we prepare to learn the song Radium Girls by Rachel Sumner in October.
After reviewing some of the songs we learned last year, students learned the most commonly sung verse of Over the River and Through the Woods. They also learned the song Chickama Chickama Craney Crow, and got to go outside to play the accompanying game. Finally, we reviewed some folk dance steps and how to be a polite dance partner with the dance Gallopede, which students learned last year, before beginning our first new dance of the year, the Sweets of May.
